Warm greetings to all present here, distinguished guests and fellow Nigerians. For those watching or listening online, we say thank you for joining us in marking this day. Welcome to this Flag Raising ceremony to mark the 62nd Independence of our motherland
– Nigeria.
As a people united in purpose, we must act as good ambassadors in whatever situation or capacity we find ourselves and set aside our differences and harness our energies to the task of nation building.

Essay Writing Competition

This year, with mouth-watering prizes, our Essay Competition invites young Nigerian Canadians, aged 18-35, to explore the relationship between their identity and any aspect of their culture. Contestants will submit an original, 750-word essay, double spaced and maximum of 3-pages.

Entries will be checked for plagiarism and three winners will be selected.

  • 1st Prize:   $1,000
  • 2nd Prize: $750
  • 3rd Prize:  $500

The essay competition will be open from February 1, 2022, to February 14, 2022. All essays will be submitted electronically via the form below. Contestants may be required to provide a government issued ID.

    Black History Month 2022 is here and Nigerian Canadian Association, Greater Toronto Area is excited to invite you to its celebration event.

    On February 19, 2022, we will celebrate Black History Month with the Nigerian Canadian community in a virtual event. As a friend and supporter of our community, we would be delighted to have you present.

    This year, the theme for Black History Month is February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day. Accordingly, our celebration will include a recognition ceremony for stand-out achievers in the Nigerian Canadian community, announcement of winners of our Black History Month essay competition, cultural presentations and more.
